Woman Fatally Shoots Leopard Terrorizing Indiana Neighborhood

If this was someone's pet, this is very sad.

None

A Charlestown, Ind. neighborhood had been living in fear after several small animals were attacked by a mysterious creature. A woman and her boyfriend decided to take a stand, staying up all night armed with a rifle to shoot and kill whatever was responsible. They succeeded, and were shocked to learn that they had just killed a leopard.

Though the woman did not want to be identified, she told a neighbor Donna Duke who reached out to the local ABC affiliate. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources confirmed that she had, in fact, killed a leopard. Duke said that woman elected to take action against the night prowler because she has "cats that are basically her family" and was "trying to protect her babies."

Indiana Department of Natural Resources director of communications Phil Bloom suspects the leopard was someone's pet, but no one can confirm who it belonged to.
