31. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Director: Nicholas Stoller
Writer: Jason Segel
Stars: Jason Segel, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Russell Brand
Quotable: "You have Christ between your thighs... only with a shorter beard."
Fun Fact: Jason Segel said that one of his real-life break-ups that inspired the film was with his Freaks & Geeks co-star Linda Cardellini.
Prior to his charming Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Jason Segal, yet another hilarious neophyte from the Judd Apatow camp, never struck us as a leading man type-funny as hell in Knocked Up, yes, but not an obvious headliner. And, for that matter, we were also sleeping heavily on Mila Kunis-figuratively, though, not literally. Which sucks.
Co-written with director Nicholas Stoller, Segal's warm-hearted comedy of heartaches cleverly and tenderly flips the gender roles in romantic comedies; here, Segal is the jilted, lovesick softie, while Kristen Bell is the quasi-villain.
Packed with one-liners galore, smartly written side characters, and a breakthrough turn from Russell Brand, Forgetting Sarah Marshall proved that date night movies can appeal to both men and women.
