Catherine Kieu, who was accused of cutting her husband's penis off and throwing it in the garbage disposal, was handed a life sentence yesterday. The 50-year-old Garden Grove, Calif. native was convicted of aggravated mayhem and torture for the July 2011 incident that left the man scarred for life, and won't be eligible for parole for seven years.
According to prosecutors, Kieu sedated her husband by putting drugs in his tofu, then yelled "You deserve it!" before slicing his penis off with a 10-inch blade. Kieu's attorney claimed that she suffered from mental problems after being molested as a child and sexual abuse from her husband. However, the man's testimony which claimed the attack had left him without his identity—aside from the obvious—was devastating to the defense.
