Mike D of the Beastie Boys, or Michael Diamond as he's referred to in this New York Times article, is now the proud owner of a backyard. Mike D, who grew up on New York City's Upper West Side and "never lived outside of Manhattan" according to filmmaker wife Tamra Davis, relocated his family to a town house in the Cobble Hill section of Brooklyn. Due the new addition of a backyard to their home, Mike D christened the family residence “the suburban dream in Brooklyn.”

The couple has two sons, 10-year-old Davis and 8-year-old Skyler, and they are happy that their elder son can walk home from school alone. Mike D never got to experience this in his youth, because New York was a "very different city" during his childhood. Every parent wants their children to have more than they did growing up.

An extremely DIY couple, they spent six months renovating the 3,200-square-foot home and stayed on target of their goal to keep the project under $500,000. Though they didn't alter the kitchen too much, Mike D is considering purchasing a grill to prepare fish and vegetables on the deck. Clearly he's adjusting nicely to the phenomenon of the backyard.

Everyone has to grow up at some point, right? The bathroom, however, captures some of the downtown nightlife aesthetic of days past. It's a must to teach the kids about the good ol' days.
