Adam 'Deal With It' Orth Will be Giving a Speech About Toxic Online Behavior, Crushing Irony

First defender of Microsoft's 'always on' policy wants everyone on the Internet to be nice to one another.

None

You remember Adam Orth, don't you? Aside from giving a speech at this year's GDC Next conference on 'toxic online behavior', he's more well known for that other thing.

The former Creative Director over at Microsoft who went and made himself Internet famous by telling prospective Xbox One users to 'deal with it' in regards to the console's always on requirement. Well being a condescending prick on Twitter certainly does have a way of coming back around to bite you in the ass.

After the Tweet went viral Microsoft very quickly distanced itself from Orth and the newly birthed #dealwithit hashtag. While Orth could have quietly let the Tweet, and the ensuing gamer rage quietly burn itself out, he decided that doubling down would be the best move.

Have you ever met the Internet, Mr. Orth?  He dropped these words shortly after critics pointed out that some people live in areas with less than dependable Internet coverage and the 'always on' policy might not be entirely fair.

"Those people should definitely get with the times and get the Internet. It's awesome. Why on earth would I live in a place with poor Internet coverage?"

Orth quickly discovered how awesome the Internet was when he resigned from Microsoft following the controversy. It's unclear whether or not he was 'encouraged' to resign or it was entirely his decision, but we will find out when Orth will host 'Mob Rules: The Destructive Power of Opinion and Online Community' later this year in November.
