What better place to begin than at the beginning? Pioneered by Motorola's Martin Cooper in a sort of space race with competitor Bell Labs, the DynaTAC 8000x was the first commercial mobile phone ever produced. Its brick form factor and massive antenna meant that Gordon Gekko types were drawn to it for the sheer novelty. And the first call? Bell Labs. Proving that the morning-after boast is as old as the device itself.
