Why: Talent

To compete with Pinterest, considered to be on of the hottest new start-ups of the past two years, Mayer looked at a small team in San Francisco who ran a product called Snip.It. Similar to Pinterest, allowed users to "snip" news articles and photos and arrange them in a visually attractive way, like Pinterest. Since Yahoo! already has a number of photo and news products that it would like to see do better, the company simply purchased the start-up for an estimated $10 million and hired all but one employee.
