Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) set the bar high for every celluloid serial killer that would follow. Even when he's doing decidedly non-creepy things—like chatting with Agent Starling (Jodie Foster)—he's utterly frightening. But no amount of desensitization could prepare viewers for the scene in which Lecter escapes from a maximum security prison through a combination of cannibalism, sheer brutality, and absolutely psycho behavior. It's the sort of thing that needs to be seen in full to be truly appreciated (though it's not for weak-stomached film fans).
