The 10 Greatest Star Wars Video Games Of All-Time

Star Wars: Republic Commando for the original Xbox is an interesting interpretation of the Clone War Conflicts. The game uniquely concentrates on squad-based combat, replicating Special Forces commandos in high-risk situations. You play as a highly trained clone trooper (first person) and assist in multiple small operations missions such as sabotage and ambush attacks. No word on a sequel to this game since it's release in 2005, but I have a feeling that the announcement of a Republic Commando 2 would get Star Wars fans blood pumping.

The first Star Wars MMORPG in existence, Star Wars Galaxies attempted to live up to its much-deserved hype when it was released in 2003 for Windows. However, even though the game was forced to survive during the wake of the massively popular World of Warcraft MMO, Galaxies held it's own with a strong fan base and a rich and vibrant world. The concept of the game is what every Star Wars nerd dreamed of. Step into a smuggler vessel and live out your fantasy as a Han Solo character or take the oath of the Jedi order and make the galaxy proud. Either way, Galaxies was immersive and popular enough that the game's servers just recently shut down in 2011.

Awesome game play. Awesome story elements. This game has a lot going for it. The Force Unleashed sets players up as an incredibly powerful dark apprentice named "Starkiller". Oh, and did I mention that you're working for Vader as a right hand man? Of course, this game just got ten times cooler. Hacking and slashing through storm troopers is loads of fun and can get creative at times. Use different attack combos to electrocute enemies with force lightning or send them flying over the edge to their death. The game features an incredible graphics engine with realistic destructible environments. Fight through beautifully crafted environments to discover your ultimate fate with your master and the very meaning of your existence.

Pretty much all of the Jedi Knight series brought some incredible game play to the table. Jedi Academy, however, proved to be the stand out title of the series, bringing the best elements into one commonplace. The game may not be impressive by today's standards, but back in the day this game had Star Wars fans chomping at the bit to play it. Jedi Academy is set in the sprawling worlds of the expanded universe where players can walk the path of the Jedi and learn the ways of the force or choose to play as mercenaries and use more conventional weapons such as blasters. The single player was entertaining, but where the game really shone was in it's multiplayer. Honestly, is there anything more satisfying than online lightsaber dueling?

If the CG trailers for this game are any indication, Star Wars: The Old Republic must be awesome. The world's fastest growing MMO does not disappoint with its incredibly adept play style and beautiful world designs. With the recent termination of Star Wars Galaxies making way for The Old Republic, the game takes it's predecessor to the next level. Choose and develop your specialized character be it a Sith, a Jedi, a bounty hunter, a smuggler, etc. Roam this gigantic world and live out your fantasy in the ultimate RPG experience. Connect with friends online and create a faction to be reckoned with.

People love Legos. People love Star Wars. Put them together and you've got yourself one formidable mash-up. The Lego Star Wars series broke new ground, climbing to the top of the sales charts almost out of nowhere. The games have sparked popular new spinoffs including Lego Batman and Lego Harry Potter series. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga is a fantastic collection of levels and characters from both the new and old trilogies. This addicting and easy to learn title will have you playing this game for hours on end as you try to wrap up your complete minikit collection. Hustle and get those studs before they disappear!

Put together a classic title on a classic video game system and enjoy a creative take on a fascinating aspect of the Star Wars universe. Speed through exciting new and familiar racetracks at hundreds of miles an hour while you earn different podracers and characters. Episode I: Racer combined heart pounding pick-up-and-play elements with a fun and expanding single player longevity. Although, Episode I: The Phantom Menace only slightly embellished on the podracing subculture, Episode I: Racer took the sport to incredible new heights including with it all new racers as well as the ability to purchase and modify your podracers. But, please, just don't choose Ben Quadinaros.

Now, it's down to the top three and there's no doubt that Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader for the Gamecube deserves to be here. The Rogue Squadron series has been very popular with its first debut on the N64 and the sequel is a major improvement from an already fantastic game. This game simply blew me away when it was first released in 2001. The incredible level environments and attention to detail was unheard of at the time. Not to mention the game play and controls feel fantastic. Focusing on mainly air and vehicle combat, Rogue Squadron II is another creative example of uniquely displaying the Star Wars video game franchise.

The number two spot goes to one of my favorite games for the original Xbox. A sequel to the first smash hit Battlefront game, Battlefront II adds new and exciting game play aspects that make this game a must play Star Wars experience. The idea of winning a match by either controlling every command post or decimating every enemy player adds a new level of strategy. The addition of playable heroes such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Boba Fett can also change the course of battle. Players can also take control of a number of vehicles such as X-wings and snow speeders or even the massive mobile base known as the AT-AT. Battle online or play multiple single player campaigns for an all around Star Wars adventure that'll be sure to leave you yearning to play more.

Finally, we've reached the number one spot. The golden crown of course goes to the masterpiece that is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for the original Xbox. This 2003 smash hit took Star Wars and gaming fans to another realm of captivating gaming experience for a one of a kind work of art to behold. Choose your path (light or dark) and uncover the immersive ancient world of the Old Republic thousands of years before A New Hope. The characters and dialogue interaction add a new level of depth with each character being completely unique and relevant to your party and the story as a whole. The game's play style falls under the category of action RPG. The combat system can either be quick and unsparing or slow and more meticulous. KOTOR is full of multiple side quests and bonus characters that will be sure to keep you entertained, but the game's main story line is one for the books. Go from a nobody rogue to a force wielding powerhouse in this 30-plus hour adventure and learn your true identity as you are faced with your most difficult challenge yet: defeating Darth Revan.

Alas, I did my best to put a leash around such a massive series and narrow it down to simply the best. I can't say it was easy, but I can say that if you are a Star Wars and a gaming fan, all ten of these titles mustn't be passed up. At any rate, I guess I should leave you with some sort of Star Wars cliché.
