Bad news for Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive follow-up, Only God Forgives: The film had its big premiere at Cannes last night, and according to E!, the reception was, well...slightly frosty. Apparently, the film was booed by reviewers during its run, with its criticisms ranging from "too violent" to "Ryan Gosling barely talks." Disturbing dialogue - perhaps like the kind in this scene - was also blamed.
It's a major change from 2011, when Refn's first film with Gosling, Drive, earned him a best director award at the Cannes Film Festival. Safe to say, that probably won't be happening again.
Still though, it's not a kiss of death for the film - we'd like to point out that Martin Scorsese's 1976 film Taxi Driver was booed at Cannes when it was announced as the winner of the prestigious Palme d'Or award, and that went on to be considered one of the best films in recent history. Just sayin'.
