The cast for Justin Kurzel's upcoming Macbeth adaptation is coming together quicker than expected - just two days after it was announced thatShame star Michael Fassbender would be stepping into Macbeth's blood-stained shoes, ScreenDaily is reporting that Natalie Portman has closed a deal to star opposite him as the deranged, power-hungry Lady Macbeth.

Portman has "long wanted" the role and has previously considered playing her in stage adaptations of the legendary William Shakespeare play, but it was her desire to work with Fassbender again that sealed the deal - the two just wrapped production on an upcoming Terrence Malick film about the Texas music scene.

As for the project itself, it looks like it may actually give Roman Polanski's legendary, famously violent 1971 film version a run for it's money - apparently, the script will feature Shakespeare's original text, and it is "understood to be a visceral approach to the story including significant battle scenes."

As previously reported, the new adaptation will be directed by Snowtown director Justin Kurzel, and produced by See Saw, the same company which produced both Shame and The King's Speech.
