The 50 Most Hard-To-Watch Scenes in Movie History

20. Casper the Friendly Ghost

Movie: Kids (1995)
Director: Larry Clark
Stars: Leo Fitzpatrick, Chloë Sevigny, Justin Pierce

Larry Clark's snapshot of the 1990s, Kids, makes its tough subject matter—reckless violence and HIV-infected sex among teens—all the worse by the chilly detachment of the filmmaking. There's no judgement, no alternative offered.

The final moment sees Casper (Justin Pierce) date rape his friend Jennie (Chloë Sevigny), who has passed out at a party. He mumbles to her the entire time, assuring her that it's just him, Casper, her friend. Casper, the friendly ghost. That he seems to think this makes it OK is too much to handle.—RS
