Joss Whedon is Writing "The Avengers 2" As We Speak

After taking a Shakespeare break.

Joss Whedon is promoting his black-and-white adaptation of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, but don't worry—he's working on the script for The Avengers 2, too. He's adding some more characters from the Avengers comic books, which he loved as a kid: Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, thoug he said he hasn't cast anyone yet (Jimmy Fallon helpfully pointed out Scarlet Witch's resemblance to Selena Gomez).

“I found their powers to be very visually interesting,” Whedon said. “In the last film a lot of the characters had very ‘punchy powers’ where they were always punchy something and that got kind of boring after awhile.” In the meantime, you can get your Whedon fix with Nathan Fillion in Much Ado About Nothing. "I needed the money," Whedon joked about his reasons for doing a Shakespeare film—The Avengers is the third-highest grossing film of all time.

The Avengers 2 reportedly won't start filming until early 2014, so don't expect it anytime soon. You can catch Much Ado About Nothing in theaters June 7.
