It's usually best to ignore trolling, but this is not one of those instances. Cheerios released a completely innocent commercial featuring a family with a black father, white mother and biracial daughter that has attracted the worst kind of trolls. Comments sections can get quite indignant (look at some of the posts on this site), but whenever race enters the conversation, that invisible line has been crossed.
The trolls also visited the Cheerios Facebook page to spew hate, but it should be noted that some people chimed in to share positive comments about the depiction of a mixed-race family. That's what Cheerios is running with: "Consumers have responded positively to our new Cheerios ad. At Cheerios, we know there are many kinds of families and we celebrate them all," says vice president of marketing Camille Gibson.
