Building on the experience he gained with Monty Python—including a directing stint on Monty Python and the Holy Grail—Gilliam shifted his full attention to work behind the camera with an out-there filmography that includes Time Bandits, Brazil, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, The Fisher King, 12 Monkeys and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. And he hasn't completely retired from a life in front of the cameras; he's had cameos in Brazil and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. To his credit, he knows not to give himself any heavy lifting.
