Bill Gates has just passed Mexico's Carlos Slim to become the world's richest man, and we bet he could care less.

Of course, Gates has been the world's richest man before; many times, in fact. But Carlos Slim, a telecomm mogul from our neighbor down south, surpassed him in 2007 and has held on to the title until now. According to Bloomberg, Gates is now worth $72.1 billion, which puts him ahead of Slim by $550 million. But Gates would be far wealthier if it weren't for his philanthropy. Through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, he has donated close to a third of his wealth, so far.

Being the coolest person in the world far outweighs being the richest.
