Earlier this week, a mind-boggling video showing inmates at a New Orleans prison doing drugs, drinking beer, gambling and flaunting weapons went viral. The clip was one of three released by U.S. District Judge Lance Africk during a federal discussion about repairs at Orleans Parish Prison.

Though it's still unclear when this particular video was recorded, conditions at Orleans Parish Prison have been historically poor. There have been numerous reports of fights, drug use and sexual assault over the years. Furthermore, illegal materials are used in such a nonchalant manner that it's believed prison staff aided prisoners in smuggling them inside.

Two other videos show the prison's poor condition, as well as an inmate chillin' on Bourbon Street when he's supposed to be locked up. Most people have probably sat through high school detention sessions with more restriction.

Africk is hoping to pass a federal measure that would result in sweeping changes to the jail, namely a larger staff with more thorough training.
