Year: 1997

After being ousted from the company he helped create, Jobs went on to buy Pixar and start another computer company called NeXT. As he was out rebuilding the Steve Jobs brand, Apple had a precipitous fall from grace. Money was lost, people were fired, and products from its over-saturated lineup were not selling. To help fix that, newly hired CEO Gil Amelio decided to buy NeXT and its NeXT Step operating system, bringing Jobs in to oversee the transition. Amelio was then given the boot, and Jobs was once again king of the hill.
