There isn't an easy way to describe the Fab Four's journey into animation, Yellow Submarine. It's a psychedelic trip through the colorful world of music and cartoons, resplendent with surreal imagery and some classic Beatles tunes. This came out at a time when the Beatles populated a completely different plane of existence than us mere mortals, and Yellow Submarine still flies over the heads of most audiences. However, if you allow the wild ideas and crazy animation to wash over you, you're in for a good time.
The biggest compliment we can pay Yellow Submarine is that even when things are at their most mind-boggling, the movie never gets boring. Between the music, the exaggerated characters, and the iconic Blue Meanies, Yellow Submarine is the perfect time capsule of a decade where everything was trippy. —JS
