Critics Love It
Viewers have grown accustomed to critically acclaimed shows hanging around for a while. Series like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and The Sopranos have enjoyed longevity. With the recent demise of Enlightened, we've been reminded that just because a show makes a fair number of year-end top ten lists doesn't mean that it has staying power—it often means the opposite.
Everyone talks about the golden age of TV we're experiencing, but we would do well to remember that the fate of Terriers, Dead Like Me, and My So-Called Life is still far more common for critical darlings than a full run.
