Today at the Game Developers Conference, Crystal Dynamics studio head Darrell Gallagher announced that the latest Tomb Raider video game had the most successful first week launch this year as well as in the history of the franchise. So far, the game has sold around 3.4 million copies since its release on March 5.

Gallagher's announcement comes a few days after Tomb Raider's publisher Square Enix announced the dismissal of the company's president Yoichi Wada and a report of less than satisfying sales numbers from its top titles including Sleeping Dogs (about 1.75 million copies) and Hitman: Absolution (around 3.6 million copies).
