The NYC "Cannibal Cop" Has Been Found Guilty

He'll be spending a lot of time in prison.

Gilberto Valle, also known as the "Cannibal Cop," has been found guilty of conspiracy to kill and cannibalize women in New York City this morning. The 28-year-old Valle, who had been suspended by the NYPD, reached out to other demented individuals via fetish websites for advice on the most efficient way to torture, kill and devour women that he knew—like his wife.

As part of his defense, Valle's lawyers argued that this was all fantasy (is that any better?), but Assistant U.S. Attorney Hadassa Waxman countered by noting that Valle had taken several precautions and all of the necessary steps to execute his plan.

Julia Gatto, Valle's attorney, went as far as to compare the scenario to the reaction to the "War of the Worlds" broadcast that happened back in 1938. Seriously?

Valle was also found guilty of gaining access to a national crime database through illegal means in order to collect information on his targets. He could spend the rest of his life in prison.
