After avoiding the police, various phone interviews and tales of the original 50 Cent, Julio Acevedo finally surrendered to authorities in Pennsylvania yesterday. The New York Times says that Acevedo turned himself in to detectives just after 5 p.m. at a Turkey Hill Minit Market in Bethlehem, PA.
Acevedo had been a wanted man for striking a livery cab in Williamsburg over the weekend, killing a young couple and their unborn child. Acevedo was rescued from the totaled BMW by a stranger, then fled the scene of the accident. Nachman and Raizy Glauber, both 21, died Sunday morning. Their son was delivered via cesarean section, but died early Monday morning.
Acevedo told ABC 7 that he was driving recklessly because he had just been shot at on the turf of Kelvin Martin, the real 50 Cent, who Acevedo killed in 1987. According to NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly, there were no reports of gun shots in the area at the time.
Acevedo had been arrested two weeks earlier for DUI. He's apologized, saying he didn't know the accident had fatalities.
