According to the New York City medical examiner's office, the Brooklyn teenager who was gunned down by police officers last weekend was shot seven times—including three times in the back. It remains unclear if Kimani Gray was first hit in the back by officers, or if he was struck while turning to flee from them.
Police maintain that they fired 11 shots at the 16-year-old because he pointed a gun at them:

According to Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, the NYPD has three civilian witnesses who claim they all heard an officer yell "Don't move" and "Freeze" to Gray. Two of the witnesses also claim that they heard police ask "What do you have in your hands?'" but Tishana King says she say the incident unfold from third-story window of her building.
"I’m certain he didn’t have anything in his hands," she says. Protests have exploded into full blown riots since Gray's shooting in East Flatbush on Saturday. A third night of demonstration continued last night, and while the NYPD has only confirmed 18 arrests, witnesses report seeing at least 45 people in handcuffs.
