Joseph Cassano, the son of FDNY Commissioner Salvatore Cassano, resigned from his position with Emergency Medical Services on the same day that the New York Postput some of his offensive tweets on blast. Considering the fact that he tweeted about how much he hated his job, you'd assume he's kind of happy now, right? It's not like he's actually sorry about anything he said.
After passing the EMS test in December, Cassano was a "probationary hire." His dreams of following his father up the ladder to the FDNY have been paused thanks to his mouth. Mayor Bloomberg was asked about Cassano's comments at a press conference yesterday, and he said "I found the messages offensive. It is my understanding that he has chosen to resign from the fire department. I think that’s the appropriate thing and I’ll leave it there.”
According to the New York Daily News, the FDNY has dismissed EMS employees for tweets or comments about the personal information of patients in the past, so as Gothamist notes, complaining about having to carry a 275 pound man down five flights of stairs on Twitter will get you canned.
