Ben McKenzie Will Play Another Ex-Con

The first was Ryan Atwood, of course.

Our favorite juvenile delinquent turned architect Ben McKenzie has been on TNT's excellent Southland for five seasons, but he's been cast in a new CBS drama as TNT wavers on the fate of his show.

McKenzie would play an ex-con who pairs up with a lawyer as victim advocates who go "to the very edge of the law to right wrongs and fight for the underdog." Brit Morgan has the role of his sister, "a tattooed and pierced supermarket cashier." You might remember her as the white trash werewolf Debbie Pelt from True Blood.

McKenzie tweeted yesterday that The Advocates comes second to Southland; they're still waiting to hear whether TNT will give it a sixth season.

To clarify: I am doing "Advocates" in second position to #SouthLAnd If picked up for a sixth season, I am doing that. #SouthLAnd forever
I'm honored to be a part of the best cop show on TV (IMHO). I hope and pray it returns. Nothing would make me happier. #SouthLAnd forever

Southland also stars Shawn Hatosy and Regina King.
