Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has revealed to IGN that the next Assassin's Creed sequel will be "another major leap forward for the franchise," with a new Assassin hero, set in a new time period, and from a different development studio.

He also revealed that the series could be diverted from its normal annual schedule, with the next Assassin's Creed coming out some time before April 2014—possibly in the spring instead of fall.

"It is the benefit of multiple teams working on multiple chapters of the product," he said, "each getting several years to make their versions of an Assassin's Creed game."

Given the possible release date, it seems that the next Assassin's Creed game could come out on next-gen consoles. We won't know for sure until more info is confirmed. Where do you want it to be set, though? Check out our list of ten time periods we'd like to see explored more in video games for some ideas.
