Police in Chicago have questioned two men in the murder of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, the honor student who was killed just blocks away from her school a week after performing at the inauguration. Police pulled the men, ages 18 and 20, over during the weekend after inspecting the murder site and speaking to witnesses.
The killing occurred on Jan. 29 after students at King College Prep had been dismissed for the day because of exams. Pendleton was in Vivian Gordon Harsh Park when a gunman hopped a fence and opened fire. The shooter reportedly escaped in a white Nissan vehicle.
According to a source, at least one of the men questioned by police was riding in a Nissan Sentra. No charges have been filed yet.
Police believe that Pendleton was caught in the crossfire of a gang turf war, but do not think any of the teens with Pendleton were involved in gang activity. They're investigating whether or not the shooter mistook the crowd for gang members.
Pendleton's funeral was Saturday, and First Lady Michelle Obama was in attendance along with Valerie Jarrett and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.
