Now is the time to switch up your password on Twitter. In a blog post yesterday, the micro-blogging site spoke about a recent threat that may have come away with information for up to 250,000 users. Check out the post below.
This week, we detected unusual access patterns that led to us identifying unauthorized access attempts to Twitter user data. We discovered one live attack and were able to shut it down in process moments later. However, our investigation has thus far indicated that the attackers may have had access to limited user information -- usernames, email addresses, session tokens and encrypted/salted versions of passwords -- for approximately 250,000 users.
Before you go into a panic, you need to know a few things. There is speculation that most of the accounts affected were created around 2006 or 2007. Also, those individuals who had their information hacked have received the following message via email notifying them that their password was reset:
"Twitter believes that your account may have been compromised by a website or service not associated with Twitter. We've reset your password to prevent others from accessing your account."
