Who is Aubrey Plaza and where did she come from? Well, the answer to the second question is Delaware, which is a good thing for the tiny state that nobody is ever from.
But the bigger answer to that question is a little harder. She emerged from the improv scene in New York and had her first two really visible film roles in 2010—Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Funny People. If you got on her bandwagon then, congrats, you sure can pick 'em. But it was around the same time her character April Ludgate was becoming the secret star of Parks and Recreation. It's as April that we've really gotten to know Aubrey, and April's sardonic humor has bore its way into our hearts like some sort of unpleasant beetle. A cute unpleasant beetle.
But back to the first-first question: Who is Aubrey Plaza? She's not April Ludgate; she's much nicer. Still, the 28-year-old actress has that deadpan and sarcastic yet disarming thing that makes people crave her approval, and crave more of her quips.
On Friday, Aubrey's latest movie, A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, will hit theaters, and in it she'll take her place alongside Charlie Sheen, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman and a lot of other actors who've been in the business much longer than she has. But look for her to steal scenes with her Aubrey-Plaza-ness, which, judging by her funniest GIFs, is definitely inevitable.
