The King's Speech (2010)

Director: Tom Hooper
Stars: Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, Helena Bonham Carter

A period piece with lots of personality, The King's Speech covers the struggle of stuttering King George VI (Firth), who finds himself tasked to inspire the people on the eve of WWII. Lifestyles of the rich and famous, right? To make his address, George works with oddball speech therapist Lionel Logue (Rush) in a room where the paint peels in perfect strips (the art direction in this movie is aces).

The story is compact, the performances memorable, and so long as you can find it in your heart to root for a monarch, the finish satisfying.
