During WWII, a local farm girl, an American GI, and a British soldier wind up in a small town on the way to Canterbury when they encounter the Glue Man, a prankster who's pouring glue in the hair of girls who date soldiers.

As they attempt to unravel the mystery behind the caper, they become caught up in the strange history of the town, twisted about by the seedy magistrate who seems to be leading them down the wrong track. British icons Powell and Pressburger at their charming best.
