Pint-size Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis is in talks to star in Will Smith and Jay-Z's adaptation of the classic musical Annie. Smith's daughter Willow was originally supposed to star, but she "aged out" of the role (she's 12?) but Smith said at a talk at Temple University last weekend that his daughter would rather just be a kid than a child star.
Wallis, on the other hand, is the youngest Best Actress nominee ever and auditioned for her breakout role as Hushpuppy in Beasts of the Southern Wild when she was only five years old. No word on whether she has any singing experience.
Annie first hit Broadway in 1977 and was based on the 1924 comic strip Little Orphan Annie. The Depression-era musical stars the titular orphan in her quest for adoption. The first big screen adaptation came out in 1982 and starred Carol Burnett as the tyrannical Miss Hannigan. It was remade in 1999 as a TV movie with Kathy Bates as Miss Hannigan and Victor Garber as Daddy Warbucks.
Easy A's Will Gluck has just signed on as director, but no official casting announcements have been made yet.
