Pope Benedict XVI stepped down today, but not without taking a moment to say goodbye and thank his many followers on Twitter.

The Pope famously joined the blogging platform last year, which he used to spread messages of peace and devotion to God in several languages. Not all of the messages were gramattically correct, as Speakeasy's Christopher Farley points out, but they did touch on a number of salient issues and encourage the faithful to begin a constructive dialogue.

Here's what the Pope, tweeting under the handle @Pontifex, wrote today.

Thank you for your love and support. May you always experience the joy that comes from putting Christ at the centre of your lives.

We recommend scrolling through the responses to see how well his tweet was received (hint: not very). Among the responses were, "Cool story, bro," and "Thanks for nothing."
