According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, Sony's next-gen console may allow users to interact with one another, even if they're not all sporting Sony gear.

“Sony’s new console may also allow users to compete against others using different hardware, such as smartphones and other portable devices.”

OK, we're listening. The PS3 allowed for cross-play through the Vita, so it would make sense that the PS4 would broaden those capabilities. But, of course, the question would be would those devices have to be Sony 'approved'? We do know that Sony is placing a massive emphasis on social networking with their new console.

"The new PlayStation also will allow players to share achievements on social networks through smoother links to Facebook or Twitter, while also enabling aspects such as sharing footage of game play online through YouTube."

The reveal of the rumored PS4 controller last week only strengthens these rumors. What do you think? Cross-play sound like something that could lure you out of spending $400? Let us know.
