Michael Bay Says He "Redesigned Everything" For "Transformers 4"

Expect a new look for your favorite bots.

With a brand new cast and storyline in place for Transformers 4, director Michael Bay is promising that the series will take on a completely different feel now that stars like Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox have retired from the franchise. And though we expected the actors to look different this time around, in a recent interview with Forbes, Bay revealed that the robots themselves might look different as well.

“We’re going to start off smaller,” Bay said. “There’s a brand new cast. To freshen the franchise we’ve redesigned everything from top to bottom. The history of the first three movies is still there, we start four years later and there’s a reason why we’re meeting a new cast.”

Then when he was asked if this was a reboot of the Transformers movies, Bay replied with, “No, that’s wrong. We keep the Transformers the way they were, it’s just four years later. There’s a reason the Transformers are redesigned. We’re trying to broaden the franchise and give it more places to go.”

There was a report a while ago that Transformers: Dark of the Moon had the lowest toy sales of the entire trilogy, so it only makes sense that the studio would want Bay to redesign some of the robots so new action figures could be made. We’re pretty sure old favorites like Optimus Prime will still be involved; just expect him to look a bit different.

Transformers 4 will hit theaters on June 27, 2014.
