"Identity Thief" Expected to Win Box Office This Weekend Despite Threat From Winter Storm Nemo

Earnings are expected to be down.

None

Even the gigantic winter blizzard Nemo which is set to hit the east coast some time in the coming days isn't expected to be enough to stop the upcoming Melissa McCarthy- Jason Bateman-starring comedy Identity Thief from taking the box office easily this weekend.

Though early predictions do show that earnings will be negatively impacted by the storm, it's still looking likely that the film will earn something in the $25 million range - enough to beat this weekend's other new release, Steven Soderbergh's Side Effects, which is expected to earn $10 million to $12 million.

How much could the storm affect box office earnings, though? Seeing as how details about the storm are still rather vague, this isn't yet known, but New England is expected to get hit by about 18 to 24 inches of snow - NYC in particular with up to 14 inches of snow. Since NYC makes up about 8% of audiences, if the storm is bad enough, there could be a noticeable dent in earnings.

We'll keep you updated as more details become available.
