Even though drivers were advised to stay off of the roads due to the blizzard, hundreds of drivers were left stranded on the Long Island Expressway because roads were closed traveling in both directions. Police in Suffolk County spent the entire evening aiding drivers, helping them to diners, hotels and gas stations.

The expressway was closed around 9:30 p.m. last night, and vehicles were stuck when piles of plowed snow made it difficult to exit the highway. According to Hazel Sanchez of CBS 2, some of the piles were as tall as five feet.
