Gas prices in Chicago have passed the national average, and AAA points out that gas prices have risen in the city every day for the past 31 days—a record high. As of yesterday, the national average for gas was $3.71, while the average in Chicago was $4.08. That's a 40-cent jump from the previous month and a record for the month of February.
According to analysts, oil prices are high because Saudi Arabia refuses to lower its output and several major refineries have been closed due to maintenance. Before you start flipping out, keep in mind that analysts don't think prices will continue to climb. This means gas won't be $4.50 like it was last year.
