Could an animated FarmVille TV show be Zynga's newest cash cow?

The Wall Street Journal reports that Brett Ratner, executive producer of Prison Break and director of the Rush Hour movies and X-Men: The Last Stand (among many others) will produce the FarmVille show with production company Six Eleven Media. He'll serve as executive producer along with Kirk Schenck, Charles Bishop and Nina Gelb.

As the WSJ points out, Zynga hasn't been doing so hot lately, reporting losses and flat revenue earlier this week. But Ratner has confidence in the brand:

FarmVille is one of the most exciting brands out there today and its cross-platform opportunities are endless. I am thrilled to be expanding the brand with existing fans and also engaging a whole new audience,” he said in a statement.

So. FarmVille TV show: best or worst idea ever?
