As Breaking Bad nears the end of its fifth and final season, series creator Vince Gilligan says he'll be writing and directing the last episode. He also directed the pilot, the season three finale, and the last two episodes of season four.

The finale will be the only episode penned by Gilligan this season—but he hasn't written it yet. Filming is set for early March; the second half of the season will premiere this summer.

Gilligan said the series ending will be bittersweet for him. "There's always going to be somebody who wished it went a different way. But if it ends well, if it ends right...hopefully we're going to please the bulk of our viewers with this ending. We're going to leave it all on the field, I can tell you that."

Ok, so that doesn't tell us anything about how the series will end, but he did hint at a possible spinoff about Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk).

"He always seemed like a character who could support his own show. I very, very much would like to see that happen. It would be lighter in tone than Breaking Bad, but it would be a fun thing to have."

Fingers crossed!
