You'll Become An Expert On: International Poverty

Understanding institutionalized poverty on an international level takes more than a masters degree, let alone a 90-minute film. Born into Brothels provides an uplifting tale, chronicling a woman's attempts to teach photography to the children of Indian prostitutes. But viewers have to ask the question: Does a film like this improve the lives of the subjects or is "awareness" a hollow word, with no real currency? Though it's tough to ask this kind of question when your heart strings are being tugged so intensely, it's worth doing.
