Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)

Country: USA
Director: Adam McKay
Screenwriters: Will Ferrell, Adam McKay
Stars: Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, David Koechner, Vince Vaughn, Fred Willard, Chris Parnell

Remember when Anchorman first came out, and filmgoers exited theaters more confused than amused? At the time, Adam McKay and Will Ferrell's anything-goes satire of '70s newscasters bewildered with its overt ridiculousness; in hindsight, though, we just weren't ready.

It wasn't until the second or third time seeing Anchorman that its greatness became obvious. By then, the tone was accepted and the point—that Ferrell and his collaborators did whatever they thought was funny, without any regard for mass audiences—was understood. Now way past our 50th viewing, we're certain that Anchorman is a gift from comedy's gods.

Anchorman is one of the most quotable movie ever, a tour de force of absurdity, and a gathering of our generation's most important funnymen (names like Ferrell, Rudd, Carell, Vaughn, Stiller, and Rogen). —MB
