In the near future, Yelp will become that much more helpful by posting scores from the public health departments in San Francisco and New York. Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman gushed over the decision, calling it "a new open data standard — the 'Local Inspector Value-entry Specification' or, simply, LIVES."

The new service is already active in San Francisco, and will be coming to New York in the next few weeks. Both Chicago and Philadelphia will follow, and Yelp is encouraging cities who do not have the service yet to contact their local health department officials and direct them to foodinspectiondata.us to sign up.
