Shortly after launch, video sharing app Vine received a lot of heat for the explicit videos being shared on the app. Days before that 500px was removed from the Apple App Store after users complained about pornographic photos on the app. In an effort to avoid the same fate, Tumblr has added a mature 17+ requirement to download the app.
Recently released in the Apple App Store, version 3.2.4 of Tumblr's iOS app brings a few "small bug fixes," but the most notable change is the addition of a mature rating. The program's description now says: "You must be at least 17 years old to download this app" because it contains "Frequent/intense sexual content or nudity."
Once the new version of Tumblr is downloaded, users are required to confirm they are 17 years of age or older. It appears that the new age requirement added by Tumblr is a preemptive measure in light of all the backlash apps received for nudity. Tumblr has yet to comment on the changes in the iOS app.
