Last week, New York passed landmark gun control legislation, and Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott hopes that this ad will draw gun-loving New Yorkers to Texas. Abbot placed ads in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, saying "We have no income tax, yet still manage to have a multi-billion dollar budget surplus....Use some of that extra money to buy more ammo."
Abbot says he placed the ads to show how "Texans value freedom, and specifically their freedom to protect themselves." He added that the state of Texas had experienced the country's largest population growth from places like New York because their culture "does value freedom.”
