Good news for next season of American Horror Story - season three may be pretty far off, but The Hollywood Reporter is already confirming that Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will be back as regular cast members, along with Jessica Lange.
Creator Ryan Murphy confirmed the news after a screening of the finale of the second season, Asylum. He also revealed that producers are meeting with other actors to add to next season's cast, and they're all "actors Jessica [Lange] wants to work with - so she's sort of become a non-credited producer on season three, because she loves doing the show." Additionally, Murphy says that season three will revolve around a female character portrayed by Lange, and that there will be a lot of "female power" abound.
"We do have a great icon, and it's a woman," Murphy said. "I always start off with things that I've always been obsessed with...the season that we're just about to do is another thing like that asylum thing that I was always really interested in as a kid. I come up with the story, and it's obviously always now crafted around Jessica, for the most part. Before I talk to anybody, I go to her and tell her what the story is and tell her what the character is and she has input. This year, she said, 'I would like to work with X, Y, Z,' people she's always wanted to work with." Also, "I will say that for season three, we are going to have some actors from season one who will return."
As for details about the upcoming third season, like the subtitle and plot specifics, Murphy didn't disclose much - but he did say that things may be slightly less dark than compared to previous seasons. "You're going to see a very different tone in season three, but that's the joy of the show...I think as a person right now I do feel lighter and wanting to embrace something a little bit more fun."
The season finale of American Horror Story: Asylum airs on January 23 at 10 PM on FX.
