Now, Your Petition Will Need Far More Signatures to Get a Response From the White House

If you want the White House to respond to your queries or take action, you're petition is going to need more signatures. On Tuesday, it announced that the number of signatures required to illicit a response had been raised to 100,000—four times the previous requirement.

New media director Macon Phillipssays the decision was motivated by the success of the White House's "We the People" website:

The bulk of the petitions that met the threshold were secession petitions, which were all dismissed with the wave of a magic wand. More than anything, the White House wants to make it more challenging for people to draft petitions for absurd causes that they actually have to respond to.
