Kickstarter backers ponied up $83,144,565 to game-related projects in 2012, according to the crowd-sourcing website.

Let that number sink in for a moment, that is a metric ton of stacks. Kickstarter reports that pledges were made by 561,574 backs to 2,796 different games projects. 2,796 games projects were launched throughout the year, and Kickstarter confirms 911 were successful.

That's a pretty significant ratio of launch to fails. Lucky for all of us that the wildly successful Double Fine Adventure project was one of the biggest cases of win for crowd-funded gaming in 2012. Double Fine Adventure received $3,336,371 of its initial $400,000 goal.
