According to Coming Soon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has joined the cast of director Robert Rodriguez’s comic book adaptation Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. In the movie, Gordon-Levitt will play Johnny, a cocky gambler who disguises a darker mission to destroy his most foul enemy at his best game.

“Johnny is a new character in the Sin City world and we are excited for what Joseph will bring to the role,” said Robert Rodriguez and Sin City creator, Frank Miller, in a joint statement.

"I love how the first movie uses VFX, not to make fake things look real, but to create a heightened world unburdened by the look and feel of reality," said Gordon-Levitt. "Plus, nobody makes a badass like Mr. Rodriguez."

Being that “Johnny” isn’t in the original A Dame to Kill For comic book storyline, we’re not completely sure who he is, or what his intentions are. However, you can’t deny that Gordon-Levitt is one of the best young actors working now, so anything he’s in has our attention.

Last week it was reported that Marvel was interested in bringing Gordon-Levitt in for its Guardians of the Galaxy adaptation, but now Deadline is reporting that this Sin City gig will eliminate him from contention. The studio is now focusing on other candidates to fill the role.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For will be released on October 4, 2013, and will also star Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, and Dennis Haysbert.
